ABOUT
Emma Woodbright is a professional photographer; whose main area of interest is documentary and street photography. She lives with her husband Mitch and their doggie Marley, in a motorhome, that they have travelled extensively in and is currently based in Gin Gin, QLD.
Emma has just graduated with her Bachelor of Creative Arts and Design (photography) at Charles Sturt University. During her time at Charles Sturt University Emma was involved in the Glitch18 film festival for a short documentary titled Bad Company, which explored the Australian ute muster, and went on to win the Student Excellence Award. She was also included on the Charles Sturt University Executive Deans List Award for overall high grades in 2017 and 2019. Outside of university, Emma’s work was included in her first exhibition titled Approximately 23 Degrees North and South in 2017, which involved a short series of her work, documenting the local region, being displayed in both the Bundaberg Regional Art Gallery and the Nanning State Library in Nanning China. Her work has gone on to be included in several other exhibitions.
Much of Emma’s current and future work is focused on telling narratives about people and places. She believes the ability to story tell and the power of storytelling is a common thread, going back thousands of years that ties all of humanity together. She prefers to work in film and non-manipulated digital photography as these mediums and techniques are concurrent with the theme of truth and reality which Emma wishes to convey in her narratives.
Through her documentary photography Emma aims to contribute to the picture of what it is to be human and all its many facets, she is keenly interested in portraying true stories about lives, passions, and experiences. Her hope over her career is to contribute to the visual history/ documentation of humanity and the world, particularly that of “ordinary” people and day to day life, to her the more ordinary the better as this is what makes up humanity.
