Scotty_ Scotty’s RC Repairs and Parts

Scotty started operating Scotty’s RC Repairs and Parts from home around 5 years ago. He then opened a store front roughly 2 years ago. From this store he sells RC (Radio Controlled) cars, scooters, pushbikes, skateboards, and gel blaster guns. In addition to this Scotty and his employee Adam, sells parts and does repairs for all these products. Recently Scotty has also opened Scotty’s Indoor Centre. At this venue there is an arena for CQB close quarter combat for gel blasters, there is also an RC car track currently being built, including an indoor rock crawling track. The centre is available to hire and runs regular competitions and events.

Fortunately, Scotty’s business was able to continue to stay open during the pandemic, however he made sure to be prepared by ensuring his online shop was up and running so that in the event of a lockdown he could still operate and deliver products. Despite being able to continue to operate there was an impact felt by the business and a drop in sales, with hours having to be cut for Adam, the businesses casual employee. However, once government financial assistance began being delivered, many customers came to purchase bikes and other items that could be utilised as exercise during the lockdown restrictions, this saw a welcomed brief upturn in sales that Scotty was grateful for and it provided some relief for the business.

There has also been difficulty and an unpredictability with accessing stock, as the various restrictions, lockdowns and limited availability have made it hard to find and purchase products.

Scotty found the early stages of the pandemic the hardest and was surprised by the ups and downs experienced by everyone in so many ways, saying: “There was ups and downs, being a business owner that’s what it’s about, I guess. But yeah, sort of threw a spanner in the works”.

Despite the ups and downs, Scotty has still been able to sponsor many of the events for things such as RC racing. And helped people where he could. He was also grateful for the various people that helped him to get the Indoor Centre up and running.

In addition to the local kindness shown by the community, Scotty has also been able to keep the title he won at the 2019 RCRA Queensland Quarterscale Radio Control Speedway, where he placed 2nd in the late model diversion. Because of the restrictions of 2020 the races were not able to be held, meaning Scotty was able to keep the title for another year and will be back to defend it in 2021. I wish him the best of luck.

A big thank you to Scotty for his time and for sharing his story.
